July Sales

If you live up in North Country you have to super psyched at this moment. As expected the new opening was a great success. There was a mariachi singer which is probably one of the coolest experiences in my opinion. The inside has a cool old school feel with a big open bar with cushioned stools. I didn’t have time to eat but everyone in the place seemed to really enjoy their orders. And of course the owner is probably one of the nicest human beings on earth. And if you live in a 2 mile radius you can get free delivery! Get eating! More photos of the grand opening after the jump.

I’m sure many have heard that CommonWealth, the new pub by the same owners as Hank’s Oyster Bar, will open its doors Wed. August 6th on Irving Street west of 14th. I was lucky enough to meet one of the designers of the logo (Soung, see tattoos below) who invited me in to take a look around and snap some photos. First of all let me say it looks like they are going to have a great outdoor dining area (photos after the jump). Inside was understandably a bit hectic as last minute details were getting ironed out and the waitstaff was getting trained. Even with all the craziness it had a very warm and open feel. I was excited to see checkers and chess tables, an open bar area and some very comfortable seats. I am super stoked to try the place. In the meantime get a taste of the place with lots of photos after the jump. (more…)

I always thought this place was one of the best deals in town so I’m not surprised it has sold out. The location is stellar as it is a stone’s throw from 11th Street and Red Rocks as well as the Petworth Metro. And with the prices in the mid 200s that sounded pretty sweet. Enjoy.

14th Street was bustling with folks this Saturday looking for good deals.

I found the best deal of all – fresh squeezed lemonade!

This dog was the coolest and only drinks the finest bottled water.

So did anyone check it out? Any good deals?

The numbers are the birthdays of the owner’s niece and nephew. I thought it was a pretty interesting spot. The owner is Soung who was part of the team that designed CommonWealth’s logo (more on that to come in a bit).

I thought this was an interesting sight – it is two identical attached homes where one has pure grass as a front yard and the other (left obscured by the tree a bit) has an absolute wild combination of plants and shrubs. I think they both have merits. But which do you like better grass or plants, flowers and shrubs?

I went to Columbia Heights Coffee craving a bagel and lox sandwich. Sadly, they were out of lox by the time I stumbled over. I did have a delicious two eggs, sausage and toast combo. But that really isn’t the point. I was enjoying my meal outside when a bird shit on my sneaker. No big deal, yeah? Except as I’m cleaning off my sneaker, the very same bastard of a bird shit square on my head. I mean it was a perfect bullseye. Fortunately there are still some good people left in this world. So when I exclaimed “Oh Fuck” after being hit the second time, there were two young ladies sitting next to me who asked me if I was alright. After laughing for a few seconds one of them went inside to get napkins and then the two were so nice they actually cleaned the shit out of my hair for me. Unbelievable. Above and beyond. So I’d like to publicly thank them for contributing to the beautiful life. And it is good luck right…
