In addition to Red Derby and the other places mentioned last week, Red Rocks (11th and Park) is also hosting a party.

RedRocks is planning on hosting debate watching parties on 10/2, 10/7, and 10/15.

Hmm, I received the dates in an email but I assume they are hosting a party tonight as well. I guess it’ll be moot if McCain doesn’t show up tomorrow…

Thanks to a reader for alerting me to the dozens of Found Rabbit signs in Columbia Heights. It’s nice that someone would go to all the trouble after finding a pet. It’d be weird, though, if it was a wild rabbit…

Looks like a fairly standard building. But what I’m curious about are the two condos that have private entrances. Is that more appealing? They’re both on the first floor of course. Would you rather have a private entrance on the first floor or a standard condo on a higher floor?

Well it’s not as good as these knights but, hell, I never thought I’d see more knights anyway. So it’s just bonus I guess. It’s look like we got the making of a new trend in town. I can’t believe they’re hiding it behind some shrubbery. This should be displayed in all it’s glory.

The flier for this condo at 27 Logan Circle says:

“Stunning light filled 3 bdrm 2.5 bath plus Den and a loft facing Logan Cir. Private elevator from secured parking space. 3 levels of living, 35 foot atrium, roof deck, gas fireplace, flat screen TV conveys. 2280 Sq Ft.”

More details and a “virtual tour” can be found here.

Holy canoli is all I can say. But is it a reasonable deal for the odd price of $981,725? I promised myself I wouldn’t go a penny over $972,289…

Per a reader’s suggestion I’m opening up a random thread. You can talk about what ever is on your mind – quality of life issues, a beautiful tree you spotted, scuttlebutt, or any random questions/thoughts you may have. I’ll see how this works and will make it a once a day or once a week post.

hipchickindc lives in the Bloomingdale neighborhood in NW Washington, DC. She is a mom, a real estate broker and a professional artist. More of her artwork can be seen here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/hipchickindc/collections/72157602023407003/

Many years ago, fresh out of art school, I moved to the DC area for access to world class museums. While I will never tire of spending an afternoon at The National Gallery or The Phillips Collection, I find myself getting much more excited about the small independent arts venues that are evidence that DC’s local art scene is thriving.

With the success of a number of independent local businesses, coupled with solid architectural stock and a vibrant community, Bloomingdale is a neighborhood perched on the brink of being recognized as a cool, artsy enclave. The presence of 87Florida, located literally at the very tip of the neighborhood, brings us that much closer.

About a year ago, in passing, I had seen a gathering of people at 87 Florida Ave NW. There were flag-like signs out in front for the event, and it was one of those places I planned to check into more. It wasn’t until May 2008, that I finally got a closer look. Continues after the jump. (more…)

In honor of the National Book Festival this weekend I thought I’d ask a totally random FQOTD similar to when I asked what was your first concert. So anyway I’m a fairly voracious reader and I’m always looking for good recommendations. So the FQOTD is what is your all time favorite book (fiction or non fiction limit 3)? Also what’s the last great book you’ve read?

My all time favorite book is nearly impossible to pick but since I asked the question I’ll go with Cannery Row by Steinbeck, although I also was blown away by You Can’t Go Home Again by Thomas Wolfe. Currently I am reading a phenomenal book called The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson. If you’re looking for a well written, smart page turner I highly recommend it.

Your turn.
