Every since I saw the sketch a while back at Columbia Heights Coffee I’ve been looking all over for the finished mural. Finally found it this weekend on Florida Avenue.

New from the forum section: A reader has a few questions:
“First, anyone know where to find a game of pick-up soccer in MtP/Petworth/Columbia Heights? I’ve found a couple games elsewhere, but they are a bit above my skill level. I’m looking for a rec level game somewhere (not too competitive). Any ideas?
If such a thing doesn’t exist in the area, anyone have an interest in getting a PoP game together on a weekend or weekday evening (tougher this time of year, I know)?
and/or
Any interest in getting together a rec level co-ed indoor or outdoor team this fall/winter?”

Pretty sweet, yeah? Haven’t seen too many this color wood before. Anyone know what type of wood this is?

It’s so wild to see this project coming to completion. But as many have speculated it is true – they are becoming rentals and no longer condos. The list keeps growing. But on the other hand people have often been writing me about where to find good rentals in town so hopefully these projects will help fill that need.
I’m really looking forward to see what it looks like when all the red brick is filled in as well.

Can maybe use a little upgrading but still a very cool house. I’ve never seen one that looked like this before.

From an email:
“Just wanted to let you know that this weekend we’re starting a reverse happy hour from 8-10pm on Friday and Saturdays featuring $10 bottles of wine. We figured if people are headed to the 9:30 club for a show, or going out to the bars and clubs on U street, or wanting to lay low for the evening with some friends, or even just stressing about the economy and wanting to get the biggest bang for their buck, they might want to stop in and take advantage of our quality wines for $10/bottle.”
Ed. Note: Mmm, wine…

But this is absolutely an exception: “Where Looking Good is Understood.” Beautiful.
Incidentally, I’ve found the new PoP tag line…

I’ve written before that this spot is a bit hard to find on Florida Ave. just to the west of 14th St. I’m talking about LZ Middle Eastern Restaurant of course. And every time I walk in there the place is dead empty. I just don’t get it. The food is great, very reasonably priced and the owners are unbelievably nice. Also, as you can see from the photo above, you know the place is legit because they have magazines in Arabic. They also have a legit tea service. It would be a real shame if this place doesn’t get enough business to survive. It is not fine dining but if you don’t want to stay in the restaurant you can get your order to go as well. So if you’re looking for some good Middle Eastern food (I’ve had about a dozen Gyros that rawk every time) check them out and support a local business!

Do you think they’ll ever make new homes with the details that they used to?

The flier for this home at 303 Rock Creek Church Road, NW says:
“ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS RENOVATION OF 4BR 1.5BA W/ SEMI-FINISHED WALK UP ATTIC, FIN BSMT. LG RMS, NEW WOOD FLRS, EAT IN KT, LG PANTRY, 1 CAR GAR, NEW:ELEC SYS, BOILER, ROOF, WINDOWS, KT, CERAMIC FLRS IN KT BA & BMT, FENCED YRD”
More details and photos found here.
The original price was $469,900 but it is now on the market for $419,000. This is a sweet block because it looks onto the Old Soldier’s Home. I also like the fact that it has an attic. So what do you think is $419,000 reasonable?
