I’m an avid reader of your blog. In the past, you have highlighted local candidates running for election. This week I received the DC Voter Guide and noticed that at least in ANC 4C (my district) there are a slew of new candidates who I know nothing about. With all the development taking place in Petworth and other neighbourhood issues(church parking, dog parks, etc.,) it would be nice to know a little more about some of these candidates before we go into the polling booth on election day. HELP!!!
Back in March 2007 I wondered what ANC representatives even did. There were lots of good responses (here.) Of course now I know their importance given all the drama around the YES! Organic Market’s quest for a liquor license as well as the church median parking issue. So selecting a good ANC Commissioner is actually quite important. Fortunately I am happy with my current commissioner. Sadly, I have no idea how you can find out more about the ones competing for seats. My suggestion would be to attend an ANC meeting but I think it may be too late for that since the election is next Tuesday. So any suggestions given the little amount of time left on how to learn more about ANC candidates?

Wow. What do you think of that staircase to the roof. Anyway just for fun do you think this will sell for $1,280,000? I think someone mentioned this in a previous expensive good deal or not but do you really care about the “low fee $205” if you’re dropping $1.28 million?

Most agree that Kramer books is a great bookstore but I’ve only heard a few opinions on the food. Personally, I’ve always enjoyed grabbing brunch there. Of course, I always get the bagel and lox which isn’t really hard to prepare. So for those in the know – how’s the food at Kramer Books?

Back in January we discussed a lawn jockey I had seen. Back then I learned that “back in the Underground Railroad days these lawn jockeys used to signify a safe place. Sometimes those supporting the Underground railroad would tie a a green string around the wrist to signify a safe place.” But this one I passed last weekend doesn’t even look like a lawn jockey does it? Here’s the one I saw back in January:

Thanks to a reader for sending this photo. This was taken today at the Target in Columbia Heights. I support the option but I’m still going to get my wine at D’Vines across the street. They gave me a great recommendation last time I went. Although, I now have a new spot for my box of wine purchases…
