The flier says:

“Attached two story row house near desirable 13th & U St location. Existing upstairs layout is 3BR/1BA with plans available for new 2BR+Study/2BA layout. LR, full DR & kitchen downstairs. Front porch, entry hall, tall clgs, garage with alley access. Needs renovation but adjacent renovated house recently sold for just under $1M. U St/Cardozo Metro (green/yellow lines) & Starbucks nearby.”

More info and oddly a photo of the metro can be found here.

The description and the photo of the metro doesn’t instill a lot of confidence with the inside of the house but the location is pretty sweet. Given the fact that it will probably need some work does $645,000 sound reasonable?

Ugh, this sign on the 800 block of Upshur kills me every time I see it. We spoke about it back in June. I thought you’d be eager to know that they’re looking to higher hire a pizza man and fry cook.

I should be more hopeful because I suppose it’s possible that the pizza will be good. I come from the NY point of view which holds that the more pizza places there are the better. And God knows there are some great pizza spots in NYC with horrible signage. I’ll gladly take that trade. So I’m gonna pray that this place is good and I’ll give them mad props if the pizza is quality, hell I’ll give them mad props if the “things” are good…

Dear PoP,

My friends and I are from the south, well three of us are. We’re looking for the best red velvet cake in town. We’ve had the red velvet cupcakes at Georgetown Cupcake and they’re decent, but we’re looking for something better. Please help!

Signed-

Southern Belles in the City!

Can you guys help the Belles out? I did a quick search and saw on chowhound that “Fine Sweet Shoppe at Eastern Market on Capitol Hill in DC used to have them. Jenny Glasgow [said] that she was going to start baking them again now that the new East Hall is open following the fire.”

But surely some of you guys must be red velvet cake fans, yeah? Any recommendations of where to find the best in the city?

First thanks to a reader for sending the news that the taxi gas surcharge ends today.

“Ok, major announcement to add to your site (unless you already knew this):

Sent a complaint to the DC Taxicab Commission about the gas surcharge. It is being removed tomorrow! Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

Second, you can catch some free taxis around town. It’s a promotion but a pretty cool one. From an email:

Poor CDs, this is what you’ve been forced to resort to. Does anyone even buy CDs anymore? I still buy CDs from time to time particularly when it’s one of my favorite bands so I have the liner notes. In memory of the CD you can check out the first CDs folks ever bought here.

While stores are going out of business (see below) it seems new buildings are still going strong. This building is going into a great corner spot at 11th and T. It seems like they can fit 8-16 apartments (a totally arbitrary guess) in this space. It seems like the condo market has ground to a halt so do you think they’ll be rentals?
