Sadly, like many DC Fire Hydrants:

A sign that we are rapidly approaching one of the greatest times to live in DC. I think Spring is DC’s greatest season by far. Sadly, it seems DC’s spring can vary from a few weeks to a few months. Let’s hope we get a proper Spring this year.

I don’t know what it is about this sculpture but I couldn’t take my eyes off it.

The right side of this house is stamp. Ed. Note: I learned some new slang today. Stamp. As in stamp of approval. As in dope sky…

After seeing this spot on Calvert Street in Woodley Park back in September, I asked where was the best spot to get crepes in the city? Alas, I guess folks weren’t ordering enough crepes here. Or this spot at 2311 Calvert Street might be cursed as it seems to change businesses every 6 months to a year since the video store went out of business. Maybe it should become a wine bar…

The lady came out of the store and couldn’t understand why I was taking a photo. All I could say was – “Doo Grow, Doo Grow, that’s awesome!”. I think she thought I was slightly insane… You have to admit, that is a pretty sweet name, yeah?

This is the building that amazed me because the closets had windows. It is located at 1407 W Street, NW. I know it’s not the greatest picture but I think the building looks pretty good. You?

From an email by Councilmember Jim Graham:
“Throughout my career I have tried– working with others– to solve problems. I have worked hard to listen to my constituents. People know also that I am a determined crime fighter who is equally determined to address the root causes of crime.
Children should be able to play outside safely. Neighbors should not be afraid to sit on their front stoops, or walk to the local convenience shop. Our young people should not live in fear while they wait for the bus. People ought to be able to walk freely into their homes and the lobbies of their apartment buildings.
Those concerns led me to try to draft a constitutionally sound piece of legislation. The purpose was to give residents and neighbors some much-needed relief from criminal congregants while also reaffirming the right to assemble. So the draft bill was narrowly focused by requiring a limit of 240 hours, a designated area, and other restrictions.
I care deeply about civil liberties. I am also concerned about giving government power that can be abused, through unfairly targeting people on the basis of race or background. After a lot of effort, there are still critical ambiguities (e.g. the definition of what constitutes “loitering”) . Thus, the opportunity for abuse is too great. Very recent events have reinforced that conclusion.
Thus I have withdrawn the bill.”
Thoughts?

This photo was taken by Nestum23 of the one year anniversary of the fire at 3145 Mt. Pleasant Street. Nestum23 has captioned the photo, “One year later they want to volver…I hope they do.”
Submit your photos to the PoPville flickr pool here. I understand not all folks like to join the pool so if you’d like to submit a photo you can also email me or tag your flickr photo “popvilledc”.

This house is located at 4119 4th Street, NW:
The flier says:
“NOT A SHORT SALE OR FORECLOSURE. Needs a few touches. Paint, pull up carpet, sand floors, minor repairs and move in. Finish renovate the kitchen and basement later. Make an offer.”
More info but sadly no photos found here.
Well, because there are no photos we’ll have to assume the place needs a bit of work. But even so, this reminds me of 2003 prices. It can be yours for $225,000. Sound reasonable?
Full disclosure: I live on this block. I’m not sure if that helps or hurts the value…
