This house has just about received every honor I can give. It was just added to the flickr pool by ewilfong who titled it, “My favorite DC house”. I thought it was worth a re-PoP as ewilfong is a much better photographer than I am. This is definitely in my top 10 favorite houses. I’ve been thinking about setting up my own impromptu walking tour. Maybe I should do my top 10 favorite houses of the day?

“Dear PoP,
Sometime last week road crews tore up 18th & Columbia, screwing up traffic and making things a giant pain in the ass for everyone in the area. Friday afternoon they packed up and split, leaving the intersection a nasty, gravelly mess.
I don’t know which talented public works official oversaw this brilliant plan, but it’s pretty ridiculous that they’d leave the place looking like a third-world slum all weekend without even pretending to work on it. Maybe they should have hired the guys remodeling the building next to mine, they definitely don’t have a problem working on Saturday mornings.”
Does anyone know the time frame for this project?

Thanks to a reader for sending. He was “walking between Capitol Hill and the Nats stadium. I think it was new jersey and K SE.”
The reader also got another super cool contrast shot after the jump. (more…)

This building (4400 Masschusetts Ave, NW) knocked my socks off. I liked it so much when I was in the area last week that I walked all the way back there from Petworth. It was well worth the effort. Sadly, my camera couldn’t get the whole building in one shot so I had to take a few which doesn’t do it perfect justice but you can a feel for it.

What do you think of the style? Anyone check out the art?
After the jump I also ran into hundreds of folks walking (I think) to combat breast cancer. (more…)

J Y W was taken with the “Awesome Azaleas”. Nice!

These condos are located at 3640 New Hampshire Avenue:
The flier says:
“This is a fantastic top floor unit, 1 block from the metro and the redevelopment of Park Place. Being above the fray is wonderful and you will enjoy not only the view, the peace, but also all those lovely embellishments from recessed lighting, tub with jets, custom tile work, granite and stainless, as well as architectural details. The Woodrow is a lovely place to call home. & Furniture conveys”
More info but sadly no photos found here. I know I said I would try not to post homes without any photos but I think this is a worthy exception because its construction had been delayed for so long.
We looked at the carriage house unit of this condo back in March. Lots of folks were curious about the building in the front. I think it’ll be interesting to hear your thoughts on the price given the size and the location. Since the carriage house was a very nice renovation I assume this unit looks equally nice. Do you think $369,000 is reasonable for a 2 bed 2 bath on the top floor?

You can talk about whatever is on your mind – quality of life issues, a beautiful tree you spotted, scuttlebutt, or any random questions/thoughts you may have. I’ll open this thread every Monday and Friday. So anything good happen to you this weekend?

If people have been in withdrawal from Mocha Hut’s closing up at U Street between 13th and 14th, you are in for some relief soon.
I’m told U Street Cafe is planning on opening up May 14th!
And the owners are the same folks who will be opening up Tynan Coffee & Tea in Columbia Heights (next to Five Guys on Irving Street).

Tynan Coffee & Tea is looking to open up later this year in the Summer/Fall time frame. For more info on Tynan you can see the press release from Donatelli Development after the jump. (more…)

Sadly, I was too soaked and beat down from walking around all day to participate in the festivities but when I passed by Wonderland it was definitely rocking. For those that went, did the party kick ass?

And the sight below really cracked me up.
