“A moveable feast, death by slingshot, Civil War spies, and Mount Pleasant punk music…

These unique Washington, DC stories and many more will be told on May 30 and 31 when WalkingTown, DC offers more than 100 free walking tours in neighborhoods across the city.

Cultural Tourism DC’s popular biannual event presents tours in up-and-coming areas such as Capitol Riverfront; H Street, NE; and Anacostia, in addition to better known spots like Georgetown, Capitol Hill, and Embassy Row. Several new tours are in the lineup this year, offering veteran attendees a fresh way to explore Washington and newcomers an alternative look at the nation’s capital. Professional guides, community leaders, and neighborhood residents lead the tours, and all are donating their time and expertise.

The WalkingTown, DC schedule is available, complete with meeting places, times, and tour lengths at www.WalkingTownDC.org. Participants can browse the online schedule, pick their favorites, and join the group at the specified time and place. Bike tours, and some walking tours, require advance reservations, and every tour is free.”

I found this one at the jazz in the sculpture garden event. It was from a tourist visiting DC who got it done in Thailand. I’m fairly certain he and his friends thought I was insane… Cool tattoo though.

I posted this Russian Orthodox Church almost exactly a year ago. The old camera was starting to go on the fritz then so here’s a better picture. I also wanted to put this up because someone mentioned it in one of the Crestwood posts. It is located at 4001 17th Street, NW.  Aside from the Church itself looking really cool, it is wild how it just pops up after many streets of single family homes.

Well, it’s Crestwood week here at PoP. I really like the entrance to this one.

Coming: The Star and The Shamrock Irish Tavern is applying for a liquor license at 1341 H Street, NE. It sounds super cool. I seriously love live Irish/Folk music.

Going: Pathfinder books has moved out of its space on Georgia Ave. near the Petworth metro. I believe this was the Socialist bookstore. Come to think of it, I don’t believe I’ve seen them handing out their literature at the metro in a while…

I’ve never seen one that had an extension like this before. Do you like the contrast or do you think it is too strong? And overall, thumbs up or down?

It’s also got a great balcony:

This former “House of the Day” is located at 1832 16th Street, NW:

The flier says:

“Architectural Tour de Force on the Avenue of Presidents! Public spaces designed for entertaining on a grand scale. Period details intact! Stunning updates to kitchen and baths. Sybaritic Master Bedroom suite features spa-like bath and private roof deck. Separate 2BR in-law apartment and parking for 2-3 vehicles!”

More info and an unbelievable virtual tour found here.

Ok, for all those who have been disappointed with recent house porn, this is for you. Is that virtual tour insane? I should’ve known it was going to be amazing as I had to look up the “Sybaritic” from the flier. It means voluptuous, sensual, from the notorious luxury of the Sybarites. That is one sybaritic master bedroom and entire house for that matter. Is this some proper house porn? It’s yours for $1,875,000.
