But not standing water features. This pool of water here is likely to provide enough breeding grounds for mosquitos to menace Brightwood, Petworth, Columbia Heights and Mt. Pleasant. If not more. I don’t know if folks are hit by mosquitos as bad as I am but this sight terrifies me. I’d say we have like 2 weeks left before I can’t sit on the porch without showering myself in Deet or skinsosoft. True story – I once put so much skinsosoft on that I couldn’t open the door to get back in I was so greased up.

Anyway, a friend of mine told me that in Berkeley, CA you will actually get fined for having a pool of water on your property. Maybe we should institute something similar here?

Lots of folks were asking me what was going on there. This is the section of the 13th St. south of Euclid and north of Cardozo HS. Well, I saw a huge crane. I thought a house was getting demolished or something. Turns out it was just lifting a new HVAC (I think it’s HVAC) cellular phone radio cabinet onto the roof a building.

Photo of one of the tallest cranes I’ve ever seen and a close up of the HVAC unit cellular phone radio cabinet after the jump. It must way a ton because the unit is not that large but the crane is gigantic. Pretty wild. (more…)

There is a whole new row of trees going in behind the Petworth metro. There is other landscaping on the side which also looks good.

Speaking of trees I received a number of emails about trouble with the new trees going into the New Hampshire Ave medians. Apparently the median is not deep enough to support trees and DDOT is not being helpful in correcting the situation. Rather than post the same thing twice – you can find out how to help at Petworth News.

While you are at PN you can also find out how to ensure the YES! Organic Market gets a beer and wine license.

Here’s a cool split one from LeDroit Park. I think I like the one on the left better. Do you think this was one huge house back in the day?

A few weeks ago I wrote about the For Lease sign in the current location of Long View Gallery at 1302 9th Street, NW. They will be moving to a spot that sorely needs a renovation:

Thanks to Renewshaw for letting me use the photos and renderings from architect, Will Couch. Renewshaw broke the news first. I’ll be touring the space as constructions proceeds. Here’s what the inside will look like:

It’s great to see this section of 9th Street, NW get some love. After the jump you can find the full press release. (more…)

La Entrada Project – Wall2 from LaEntradaProject on Vimeo.

This is a super cool project from some folks who have been emailing me from San Diego. Mural lovers unite!

“I want to share La Entrada, a public art project that I am part of. The project is made up of 4 murals on new development in San Diego California that is the size of a street block. The main muralists www.crolvswerc.com are extending from the walls and joining forces with local artists and collectives to offer their skills and resources to the community. There are 10 free workshops with all material supplied, in artistic mediums that range from classics such as portraiture and photography to the current popular choices such as silkscreening and graffiti.”
