I feel like this might be a re-PoP but man I love this house. Such a sweet porch and I’m digging the fence.

“Dear PoP,

I noticed this morning the construction next to Eat More Fried Chicken. Do you know what is happening there?”

The location next to Eat More Fried Chicken, is going to become a hair salon.

And perhaps in more exciting news:

I chatted with a worker at the space being renovated at 3501 Georgia Ave., NW. He told me it was going to become a coffee shop! He didn’t have any more details but I promise to keep a close eye on this one.

Wow, I haven’t been to the waterfront in a while. This building is awesome. It looks like it is going to house the Arena Stage, is that right?

The pictures don’t really do it justice but can you feel the flavor a bit? Thumbs up or down?

“This is Simba. If you have walked by 13th and Irving/Kenyon, then you have probably have come across this little guy. He enjoys spending time outside, and I apologize if he has attacked your cats or come into your apartments to sleep. He doesn’t mean any harm, unless you are a mouse/rat/bird/squirrel…I’m sure the list could keep going, but these are the only animals I’ve seen him kill.”

“This is America aka Mera. Mera is originally from Tennessee, and despite her cool and slick appearance this Australian Shepherd has not always had an easy life. She loves living in Columbia Heights with her foster mommies, and is looking for her dream life-long home. She’s a sweet, single girl who likes long walks, candle-lit dinners, and chicken bones left on the sidewalk (which her vegetarian mommies do not love).”

“Above all, Toby is a survivor. After he ripped his stomach from his chin to his groin and underwent a massive surgery that had a very low survival rate, he went on to endure Halloween dress-up. Stegosaurus Toby is our champion.”

This home is located at 744 Columbia Road, NW:

The flier says:

“BEAUTIFULLY RENOVATED 3BR 2.5BA BRICK TH LOCATED IN SOUGHT AFTER COLUMBIA HEIGHTS. More info and photos found here.

I think it’s a bit of a stretch to call this area Columbia Heights. Nevertheless, it seems like a nice reno and I should not it is located across the street from the Bruce-Monroe school set for demolition this week. It was originally priced at $424,126 but is now on the market for $399,999. Sound reasonable?

Dupont Market is located at 1807 18th St NW. I’ve often walked by this spot but have never stopped in. Last weekend I was dying of thirst at this point and popped in for a bottle of water. I was surprised to see it was fairly crowded. There was a pretty big wine selection but I’m more curious about the sandwiches. Is this the deli we’ve all been looking for?

Back in July I posted a Dear PoP requested computers and books for Sacred Heart Middle School Kids. The teacher, Ms. Kullberg, just sent the following email:

“Thank you from Ms. Kullberg’s class at Sacred Heart School!

Thank you to all of you who so generously donated everything from computers and printers to books and digital cameras to our class! We received books from as close as down the street and as far away as Texas.

My kids and I were so excited when the first computer arrived, and now we’re even more excited as we are gearing up for a new school year with a brand new writing center. We are SO touched by the outpouring of generosity from the Petworth and DC communities, and the biggest thank you I can offer doesn’t even seem like enough.

My student helpers and I have spent countless hours eagerly revamping my library shelves (evidently the books I had before weren’t as “AWESOME” as some of the donations) and hooking up monitors and keyboards. The look on my kids’ faces when they see all that you have donated is priceless and I can’t wait for the rest of my kids to join in on the excitement this September. As the school year moves along, we’ll be happy to always take your old books off your hands. Just come on by!

Thank you, PoP, for everything!

Love,

Ms. Kullberg’s Class
Sacred Heart School
1625 Park Road NW
Washington, DC”

This is fantastic! I am so amazed that readers from Texas donated. I’m so amazed that I have readers in Texas… But seriously, this is all you guys, I just posted the info. The thanks goes to PoPville. You guys really are the best.

Ever since I had a preview dinner with the folks from Social I’ve been super psyched about its arrival. A press release went out saying they were going to open up Aug. 17th but it is looking like that target will not be hit. I believe they will open up either on Monday, August 24th or sometime that week. They have done all of their hirings and are just waiting on some final permits. I was lucky enough to get a sneak peek and as you can see in the photos below, the place looks great and ready to roll. Just as a refresher the space has two floors. I’ll show the bottom floor first. After the jump see the upper floor and a sneak peek at the menu. I’ll be sure to announce the official opening day when all the permits are squared away, but it shouldn’t be too much longer now!

More photos after the jump. (more…)
