I’ve actually received a few emails about this but wasn’t able to track down an exact location but I still thought it was worth mentioning. The most recent reader writes:

“Last Sunday, on my way to check out Room 11, I passed by a very smoky barbecue on Park Rd. I approached and, asking what’s cooking, found a group of women huddled around a bunch of grilling chicken breasts and a very spicy looking red herbed sauce. They told me they already finished cooking the fish. I asked where they were from, and after telling me Vietnam, asked if I liked Vietnamese food. “Yes!” I said, and few in a few names of vietnamese dishes for street cred. They were quick to tell me that they are opening a Vietnamese restaurant in the neighborhood!!! They said the spot will be on 14th st, a few blocks north up by the gas station (I can’t remember which). The said it will be ready in about a month, and will be called “Pho Viet”.”

Of course Pho 14 recently opened up on Park Road just west of 14th Street. Perhaps the folks behind Pho Viet were inspired by their success. Are you excited by the idea of another Pho spot? I will of course update when more info becomes available.

A reader writes:

“Just wanted to give you the heads up about a brutal robbery/stabbing that occurred at NH Ave and Quincy Street last night [Fri 8/21] at about 10pm. About a dozen young guys chased, beat, and stabbed a man for a pair of shoes. You’ll have to contact an MPD official or councilmember for more info – that’s all I have.”

I emailed and confirmed with MPD that this incident did indeed occur. As it is an ongoing investigation they were unable to provide me with more info at present. Though they did say:

The new field at the Harriet Tubman school, at 11th between Kenyon and Irving, is not the only new field in Columbia Heights. It looks like the new turf behind DC USA is nearly finished. You can see in the photo that there is a score board for the Bell Multi Cultural School located nearby on 16th Street. I didn’t see any Mayor Fenty signage on this one…

In a previous PoP t-shirts continue to travel the globe, a reader sent in what was thought to be a bonus international pop up edition. I’ve always marveled about the breadth of the PoP community’s knowledge. Well here is the original photo:

But as you can see in the first photo, from Warsaw, the structure survived (barely) WWII. Then the reader found a photo of Gen. Eisenhower in front of the same structure from 1945. So def. not a pop up! Very cool research.

Great Wall, originally uploaded by Prince of Petworth.

“Attached is a picture of me and Victoria on the Great Wall of China at Mutianyu – Derby staff traveling the globe!”

Sweet! If those faces look familiar, as you can tell from the note, they work at the great Red Derby.

This one is located in North Cleveland Park. I dig the wood slats on the front. Another bonus about this house was that, to my surprise, it also had a pumpkin patch in the front yard. Last week I was stunned to find a pumpkin patch in Park View but I guess they’re all over town if you look hard enough.
