Lots of emails about this incident. Here’s the most descriptive with the subject line – “10 cruisers, 2 EMS, 2 fire engines on 3600 block of 13th St”:

“No idea what went on around 8pm tonight, but it got a lot of attention from emergency services. Sirens galore. They shut down 13th street between Otis and Spring. At Otis and 13th, cops from about 5 cruisers were interviewing witnesses. At Spring and 13th, the paramedics loaded one individual into an ambulance on a stretcher. Two cars looked to be involved in the collision.”

It’s not clear whether there was a chase involve or if it was just a terrible accident. I’ll see what I can find out from MPD tomorrow. If anyone else knows more about this incident please leave info the comments.

Thanks to a reader for sending in this great shot from Columbia Heights:

“Having the best spot for a morning coffee is one thing, but making the best of it is another thing altogether. We take tea on our empty rooftop and love it all the same.”

I found this one on Blagden Avenue in Crestwood. It’s got a sweet door too. But man – wait for some others later in the week from the same block. They are incredible. While we’re on this house though, I’m curious if there are fans of ranch houses?

For those that missed this from the Rant or Revel section a reader wrote:

“Just saw a bodybag [presumably with a corpse inside] being brought out of that strange white brick building at the corner of 14th & Corcoran [northwest corner]. Anyone know what’s up?”

As others have noted the blog Borderstan had the scoop:

“The location of the death is the upstairs unit of 1618 14th Street, at the northwest corner of 14th and Corcoran Streets NW. According to published reports (MetroWeekly) and numerous online reviews, the building houses a sex club for gay and bisexual men. The club last made news when it experienced a fire in June of 2005.”

I guess I’m a bit naive as well. Are sex clubs legal? Anyway, I walked by this afternoon and there was a cop car sitting out front and police tape still covered the doorways.

Allow me to introduce, Michelle, who will be providing an extra set of eyes and ears to PoP. She found this odd sight at the CVS on 14th ST on Wed evening. Sadly, she really needed some floss… Michelle, will also be providing more substantial contributions as well as compiling the weekly picks.  If you have a weekly pick suggestion please email Michelle at mlbpop (at) gmail (dot) com

While we’re on the subject of CVS. The new CVS on Columbia Road seems to be progressing nicely:

A friend of mine lives a couple of blocks away and everytime I’ve passed them I’ve thought they were a terrible eyesore. I’m happy to see that the Bates Area Civic Association has a photo of the removal order which says:

“The notice, authorized by DCRA Director, Linda Argo, cites DC Code that stipulates that billboards must not be located within 200 feet of another billboard and within 200 feet of a residential neighborhood.”

I think this is great news. What do you guys think about billboards like this? What about the big signs on the sides of buildings?
