In observance of Veteran’s Day PoP will have an abbreviated number of posts on Monday.  Normal posting will return on Tuesday.  Happy Veteran’s Day.

Apparently the DC Commission for the arts has selected the Petworth metro to receive a new sculpture. It is really quite beautiful. The artist is Lisa Scheer and she collaborated with a poet, Ethebert Miller. On the leaf a poem reads: “Every leaf surrenders to air We dance We flutter We touch the earth” Beautiful words to go with a beautiful sculpture.

No dedication date has been set yet but the work should be fully completed by the end of this week. We are very lucky to have this addition.

This is a new one behind the Petworth Metro. I think it is about two weeks old. The artwork is exquisite. Unfortunately it was behind a fence but I think you can get the gist…

This Sat. I walked by Theodore Roosevelt High School and it sounded like the Super Bowl was going on. When I went in for a closer inspection it turned out that two Pee Wee football teams were playing each other. No matter, the loudspeakers were in full effect which must have been super cool for the kids. I was lucky enough to catch a 53 yard touchdown run pictured above.

Penn Quarter Living already wrote a post on this (and have a better picture than me) but I still think it needs more discussion. So without further ado, is Chinatown too bright? Have you been to Chinatown at night lately, it is like walking around in a football stadium it is so bright. Obviously it feels very safe this way, but is it too much? It is frankly a bit jarring. How do you feel about the 1000 wattage going on in Chinatown?

Ed note: I still call this area Chinatown and will always call it Chinatown, next they’ll want me to call Hell’s Kitchen – Clinton and I’ll never do that.

If you are going to get bars on your first floor windows, you can go with a bit of flavor. I think these look pretty good. What do you think?

Here is a third floor pop up for sale at 4115 8th St, NW. The asking price is $599,900. I was dying to see what one of these third floor pop ups looked like inside. I have to say it did feel like a proper third floor. I can’t vouch for the materials but it certainly was roomier. It’s still for sale if you want to check one out for yourselves.

So which do you prefer, neon house numbers or stained glass house numbers?
