I’m Pretty Impressed With Councilmember Muriel Bowser.  This is what she wrote on the Petworth listserv last Friday:

“Dear Neighbors-

Tragically, we had a shooting in our community this afternoon on Kennedy Street . The victim’s injuries appear to be non life threatening. I join all of you in being extremely concerned about this and other crimes plaguing our neighborhoods.

I’ve discussed this disturbing spike in crime in a town hall meeting in Petworth and most recently in a community walk and crime meeting in Takoma, wherein we largely focused on youth violence and street robberies/muggings. In each case, we were joined by top police staff and the community to identify Action Plans that would prevent further violence and arrest and punishment of perpetrators. Additionally, I’ve participated in numerous neighborhood meetings where we’ve focused on specific crime issues. And just two weeks ago, I was joined by a resident for a complete briefing by Chief Lanier, 4D Command, Homicide Unit and Detective Unit at Police Headquarters where we received a complete briefing.” Apparently we will be getting “shotspotter technology” soon. She details what MPD is going after the jump. (more…)

What do you think of this renovation? These homes rest between an apartment building and a more traditional rowhouse. It’s got a bit of a modern vibe to it. I think I really like the copper. Is that wrong? What do you think, thumbs or thumbs down?

Joe Mills has done it again and produced another gem. In case you missed the one on Grant Circle you can catch it here. I’ve always had some problems with Sherman Circle. It’s a lovely circle and all but there is nothing in the middle of it. There is no statue of a long forgotten civil/revolutionary war hero nor is there any dope sky tree, it is just well empty. Well, there are a lot of trees surrounding the circle so that is pretty cool. And I guess it makes for more room for football or dog walking. Check out the video and tell me what you think. Lots more videos to come in the future.

Thanks to a reader for pointing this out to me. Apparently it was mentioned in last Friday’s Post Weekend Chat. The Washington Post has a piece on the play by Patrick Crowley. The article says: “Patrick Crowley, a freelance theater educator and teacher at Bell Multicultural High School in Columbia Heights, developed the play in collaboration with the Young Playwrights’ Theater out of workshops and interviews with young, largely Latino members of Washington’s immigrant community.” Check out the Post Article for location and times.

All my friends are sending me Christmas/holiday cards. I mean not my family. My friends. Christmas cards. What the hell? That is way too organized and responsible. My friends are drunks. Now their wives are sending me Christmas cards. And I’m touched by them! Holy cow. What the hell happened to me?

So explain to me a scenario where it is ok to brick over windows? Would it be that much more expensive to have windows? Is this an energy thing?

This wood is sweet. I’ve noticed a lot of this color wood lately beneath porch roofs. What type of wood is it?
