“Lena puts the magic in Santa’s sleigh!

With 3 toy drop off (gas) stations, she makes sure there are gently loved regalos to go the whole way
By way of Ethiopia 20 years ago, she now makes sure other migrant children have a holiday bright
Toys drop offs and top offs and to all a good night!

Lena, a deep-hearted community leader, distributed food for us out of one of her five gas stations during the pandemic. Now she brings Santa to 3 of her stations to ensure migrant children have gently loved toys. This is not an abstract concept for her. She came here 20 years from Ethiopia as a Black muslim migrant and knows intimately what it is like to live with little. See it all here and find your way to 1 of her stations in the DMV or all 3!

“Dear PoPville,

I wanted to flag WMATA’s clusterf**k of a rollout of the new (old) S2 and S9 routes and hopefully save people from waiting for a bus that may never come. This week, WMATA rolled the S2/9 routes back to 16th between K and M after about a year of running that strip on 15th. However, they didn’t inform passengers or drivers clearly of this change. Sometimes buses take the old route, sometimes the new one, so it’s roulette getting a bus at either stop right now. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I wanted to make sure you saw that there is a fundraiser happening for the family that lost their home in the explosion that happened in Arlington a few days ago. The family is safe, but they did lose everything (and right before the holidays!)”

“Northern Lights cabanas in the garden” photo by Fredde Lieberman

From Hook Hall (3400 Georgia Ave, NW):

“The garden at Hook Hall, Georgia Avenue bar and event space, has been transformed into its winter theme, Northern Lights, paying homage to the dancing waves of lights of the Aurora Borealis. The entire garden is draped in iridescent fabrics, accented by large pine trees, firepits and thousands of twinkling lights throughout. (more…)
