If you have any animal/pet photos you’d like to share please shoot me an email to princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com with ‘Animal Fix’ in the title and say the name of your pet and your neighborhood. Your photos will go into the queue (usually 3-4 weeks wait) and will be posted in the order I receive them. If you’ve already entered your pet and would like to do so again – that’s no problem – just space the entries out a bit.

“In just the month of May, the Washington Humane Society (WHS) took in nearly 800 animals in need of shelter. Brought in as strays and surrendered by individuals no longer able to care for them, WHS is calling on our community to adopt a pet today.
On Friday June 21 and Saturday June 22, WHS is waiving all adoption fees – for all animals.*
“There is no better time to adopt than right now. Our adoption centers are filled to the brim with animals who need new homes right away,” stated Stephanie Shain, WHS Chief Operating Officer, adding, “Due to our high intake, coupled with our commitment to save as many lives as possible, we are waiving adoption fees to encourage more people to visit the adoption centers and meet the pet of their dreams. Every adoption not only completes a family, it also creates a space for the next animal in need who comes through our doors.”
Cats, dogs, bunnies and other small animals are paired up in kennels, living in the offices of doting staff members, and waiting patiently in temporary foster homes. And while partner rescue groups are doing everything they can do to help with our overflowing pet population, families ready to adopt are needed now to bring home wonderful pets like Maze.
After suffering prolonged abuse at the hand of his owner, Maze is looking for love. This wonderful dog spent years being tormented, beaten, and chained outside without access to adequate food, water, or proper shelter. Maze is one of the lucky ones; he was rescued by a WHS Humane Law Enforcement Officer and nursed back to health. Despite his past, Maze has kept his lovable, friendly personality, and loves to run, play, and be petted. Meet Maze, and dozens of other animals who need a second chance for a family at both WHS Adoption Centers.

All WHS adoptions save a life, and adopted animals will already be spayed or neutered, vaccinated, tested for heartworm disease and have a permanent ID microchip. Plus – for just $5 you can take home a personalized ID tag for your new pet, to make sure they come home to you if they ever wander away. The WHS Adopt-A-Shelter-Cat Month $25 adoption fee promotion will continue for the remainder of June, following this two day promotion.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!
The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!
What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
