A Reader Sends In a Quick Review of Mid City Caffe

Ed. Note: At the time I posted about Mid City Caffe’s opening this past weekend, I also mentioned that the YES! Organic Market will be opening Monday with a ribbon cutting. Council Member Bowser’s office says that YES will now open still open on Monday Wed. at 10am but the ribbon cutting has been pushed to the 24th.

“Dear PoP,

I stopped by Mid City Caffe (1626 14th Street, NW) this morning for a latte on my way to U Street for brunch. It’s a very cute, very low key little place and the traffic was steady but not overwhelming. The espresso was quality and I’m looking forward to the chocolate croissant I took to go. There are plenty of seats inside, but folks who want to park at a table and quietly take in the Internets on their MacBooks should have their iPods charged; it’s just the tiniest bit noisy when as people come and go.

All in all, though, it’s a comfort to have this little gem around the corner.”

I too stopped by this weekend and the place really does look great. See some more photos of the inside after the jump.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
