Anyone Currently Trying To Shut Down The “Drug” House On Monroe Street?

I received a media inquiry about folks who may be trying to shut down the house mentioned in the post about Sat. night’s shooting in Mt. P. If anyone has worked toward shutting it down please email me directly at princeofpetworth (at) gmail (dot) com.

Candlelight Vigil to Honor Slayed D.C. Resident Durval Martins on May 19, 2009

GLOV to Hold Vigil in Honor of D.C. Resident Murdered in Logan Circle, Raise Awareness of Hate-Biased Crime in Washington, D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – GLOV (DC’s GLBT Anti-Violence Coalition) will hold a candlelight vigil and silent procession through Logan Circle on the evening of May 19, 2009 to honor the life of Durval Martins and raise awarenss of biased crimes against members of the Washington, D.C. Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgendered community.

On Tuesday, December 16 2008 Durval Martins was shot and killed while walking home at the intersection of 11th and Q streets, NW in D.C.’s Logan Circle neighborhood. Members of the community will be gathering to raise awareness, enlist support in finding those responsible and condemn hate-biased violence.

What: Candlelight vigil and procession to honor Durval Martins and condemn/raise awareness of violent hate-crimes in Washington, D.C.

When: Tuesday, May 19 2009 — 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. (estimated)

Where: Start: Introductory remarks at Reeve Center Courtyard (Corner of 14th and U streets, NW)

Procession: South on 14th street, East on Q street, end at 11th and Q streets, NW

End: Moment of silence at corner of 11th and Q streets, NW (the site of Durval Martins’ murder)

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
