Creating a 3rd Space: Femininity in Visual Culture

An exhibition featuring the works of three female artists. Curated by 3rd Root Aesthetic ( (a female owned art consulting and management business) and hosted by Caramel (a female owned boutique) this exhibition displays a collective of women from three distinct backgrounds and epitomizes what it means to be a woman of the 21st century.

The three artists address issues such as identity construction, love, motherhood, beauty, and fashion. Femininity in Visual Culture is the created space where female artists develop and exhibit distinct areas of representation and expression.

The Historical Society of Washington, D.C. Hosts Lecture Celebrating the
Albert Small Collection (801 K St. NW)

“On Sunday, May 17th, 2009 from 2:00pm – 4:00pm, the Historical Society of Washington, D.C. highlights the Albert Small Collection as part of the ongoing HSW Lecture Series. The Albert Small Collection comprises rare late 18th to early 20th century maps and prints of Washington, D.C., collected by Albert Small. Six active researchers, including collection curator Dr. James Goode, will discuss the importance of private collectors in preserving primary historical resources. The program will include presentations on a survey of the Washington, D.C. site before it was officially selected by George Washington, and a map penciled by a British soldier while resting in Bladensburg. Discussion will center on these and other maps in the Small Collection, but will also include other unique documents and artifacts such as George Washington’s letters. Complimentary tea and coffee will be available while viewing maps. The event is free and open to the public and will be held on Sunday, May 17th, 2009 from 2:00pm – 3:30pm. The lecture is appropriate for ages 16 to adult. If you wish to RSVP for this event, please email [email protected].”

For many remote workers, a messy home is distracting.

You’re getting pulled into meetings, and your unread emails keep ticking up. But you can’t focus because pet hair tumbleweeds keep floating across the floor, your desk has a fine layer of dust and you keep your video off in meetings so no one sees the chaos behind you.

It’s no secret a dirty home is distracting and even adds stress to your life. And who has the energy to clean after work? That’s why it’s smart to enlist the help of professionals, like Well-Paid Maids.
