If you have any fun or interesting animal/pet photos please shoot me an email to princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com with ‘Animal Fix’ in the title and say what neighborhood you’re from or upload to the PoPville flickr pool with your pets name and neighborhood. I can’t guarantee I’ll get them all posted but I’ll do my best.

Info on new animal rescue group after the jump.

“I wanted to share with you information about a new animal rescue organization, City Dogs Rescue, that three Dupont residents (myself, my partner Dave Liedman, and friend Gina Tomaselli) have started. We officially became established as a separate non-profit (not 501(c)(3) yet) late last month and have been off to a pretty busy start. Our goal is to rescue adoptable dogs from high-kill shelters and bring them to DC where there seem to be many more opportunities for them. Many of these dogs are in desperate situations, only having a day or two to get adopted before they are killed.

One of the founders of City Dogs Rescue, Dave, is also an owner of City Dogs Daycare. Therefore, we are able to base our adoptions out of the daycare facility (City Dogs Daycare had done some rescue work in the past, but not through a separate nonprofit organization). Dave is holding permanent space at the facility for foster dogs to stay until they are adopted. We are also looking for private homes so that we can rescue more dogs. So far, we have adopted out three dogs to wonderful homes in DC and Maryland. There is more detailed information and photos on our website at www.citydogsrescuedc.org and at Facebook.com/citydogsrescue.

The “Alumni” tab of our website provides some history as to how and why we got started. In a nutshell, the rescue began with a dire message about a black lab, Bentley, who was going to be killed in a day if he didn’t get out of a high-kill rural shelter in Georgia. None of the local rescue groups could help because they were at capacity, so a bunch of friends in DC got together to raise funds to bring him up here (e.g., shelter fees, vet care). Within a short time of coming to DC, Bentley found his new owner as he was being walked around the Dupont area wearing an “adopt me” bandana. That is how it began.

A City Dogs Rescue volunteer recently brought several more dogs to DC from a high-kill shelter in North Carolina. We are hoping to place them in permanent homes soon. We are trying to recruit volunteers and local business sponsors. Since we do not yet have sufficient operating funds to continue with our mission long-term, we are also seeking to raise funds from animal lovers in the community (donations can be made on our website and Facebook pages).”

For many remote workers, a messy home is distracting.

You’re getting pulled into meetings, and your unread emails keep ticking up. But you can’t focus because pet hair tumbleweeds keep floating across the floor, your desk has a fine layer of dust and you keep your video off in meetings so no one sees the chaos behind you.

It’s no secret a dirty home is distracting and even adds stress to your life. And who has the energy to clean after work? That’s why it’s smart to enlist the help of professionals, like Well-Paid Maids.
