Thumb Wrestling Tournament and Fundraiser Tonight

From an email:

“Where can you thumb-wrestle, deliver your best one-minute presidential acceptance speech AND help a fantastic writing center kick off its fall fundraising campaign? Capitol Letters Writing Center (www.capitolletters.org) wants YOU to join us October 28th at The Big Hunt in Dupont Circle. Come early for drink specials and, starting at 7 p.m., 15-cent wings. We’ll have prizes for champion thumb-wrestlers, presidential stand-ins ready to deliver the speeches of those who prefer to save their voices to cheer on thumb-wrestlers, and gads of information about our programming and the kids we’ve worked with and how to get involved. Invite your friends. Invite those with thumbs you believe are weaker than yours. Invite everyone!

There will be a $20 minimum donation request at the door. Or you can donate online before the party at http://www.capitolletters.org/donate/.

Come celebrate with us and help the hottest little non-profit in town become the hottest BIG non-profit in town!

Host: Capitol Letters Writing Center
Location: The Big Hunt, 1345 Connecticut Ave NW (Dupont Circle Metro)
When: Tuesday, October 28, 5:30PM (thumb wrestling tournament begins at 7:00PM)”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
