“Opening Celebration:
Hirshhorn Sculpture Garden
October 31, 2026 | 10:00 am–4:00 pm
Join us as we celebrate the reopening of the Hirshhorn Sculpture Garden with a full weekend of art, creativity, and conversation. Be among the first to experience Hiroshi Sugimoto’s revitalized Garden, with 60 artworks on view throughout the reimagined space, as well as the inaugural West Lawn exhibition Yoshitomo Nara: Sentinels of Stillness!
Throughout the day, visitors of all ages can enjoy art-making activities inspired by the Sculpture Garden, including creating mini–sculpture gardens, air-dry clay sculptures, button making, sidewalk chalk art, and adding wishes for the future of the Garden to the Art School Wishing Tree. Visitors can also explore on their own with a Sculpture Garden scavenger hunt, relax in a reading and sketching corner, strike a pose at our photo station, and hear pop-up talks from select artists whose work is featured in the Garden.
Whether you’re revisiting this favorite space or discovering it for the first time, this free community celebration offers something for everyone while honoring the Sculpture Garden’s legacy as a place for creativity and community.
Free. All ages welcome.
