“Dear PoPville,
I’m sorry I even had to type this or that anyone has to read this but I’m frustrated and not sure what city agency or person I should try next to resolve the below situation.
Yesterday (Thursday) I called 311 to report discarded clothes covered in human waste and more than one pile of said human waste also next to the clothes, as it was in a public space (the bottom step of the stairs that lead from Harvard St NW to the alley between Harvard and Hobart St NW). They are public stairs, between two properties. They don’t lead directly to someone’s home like most of the other stairs on Harvard do. I repeatedly explained this in detail to the 311 employee.
I was told in a follow up email (typos are verbatim): “no actionable violation that would warrant a ticket has been found at the location. sweep inspectors does not handle issues thats on property. nothing on public space at this address.”
I was not asking for a ticket. I was calling to report a health hazard of human excrement in a public space. I’m frustrated by the city not taking responsibility and the needless bureaucratic red tape. What is someone supposed to do, physically move aforementioned sh*t-covered clothes and piles of sh*t onto the sidewalk? Would they clean it then?
Has anyone successfully been able to deal with something like this and actually get it resolved? If so, suggestions are absolutely welcome.
Update: someone/some agency seemed to have cleaned it up by Saturday, which is great, but it clearly wasn’t from my attempts to contact and resolve it lol”
