We Are the Ones is a juried group exhibition exploring the power of collective action and transformation. Bringing together multi-disciplinary artists from across the DMV, the exhibition considers what it means to wield the power to build something new, together.
Inspired by the final line of June Jordan’s Poem for South African Women, “We are the ones we have been waiting for,” the call invited artists to reflect on resilience as a communal practice. Through varied mediums and perspectives, the selected artists explore what holds us together, the forces that divide us, and the ways we sustain one another across generations and geographies.
In a moment when our world rewards isolation and inertia, We Are the Ones asks what might happen if we recognize our own capacity to create change and one another as the place where that work begins.
