From a press release:

“Kneads, the Baltimore-based artisan bakeshop and café known for its handcrafted pastries, artisan breads, specialty coffee, and elevated all-day dining experience, is expanding its presence in DC with a new location at Thompson Washington D.C. in the vibrant Navy Yard neighborhood.

Kneads has signed a long-term lease to assume operations of the existing restaurant space at Thompson Washington D.C., located at 221 Tingey Street SE, Washington, D.C. The approximately 5,500-square-foot space will feature a signature pastry counter, full-service bar, spacious dining room, dedicated study area for guests to work remotely, and an expansive outdoor patio.

The Navy Yard café will become Kneads’ second Washington, D.C. location, joining its highly anticipated Logan Circle location, which is also slated to open later this year.

Founded in Baltimore, Kneads has quickly become a regional favorite by combining artisan baking with thoughtfully designed gathering spaces. The company currently operates three locations in Baltimore with three additional locations underway, including two in Washington, D.C. and one in Chevy Chase.

At the heart of Kneads is a commitment to quality and craftsmanship. Every morning, breads, pastries, and baked goods are freshly prepared using premium ingredients and delivered daily to each café, ensuring guests enjoy the freshest products possible. In addition to its café operations, Kneads offers a growing wholesale program, supplying artisan breads and baked goods to local restaurants, as well as catering services for corporate meetings, special events, and private gatherings.

“We’re thrilled to continue our growth in D.C. and break bread with our new friends in Navy Yard,” said co-owner and broker of Kneads, Kira Paterakis. “Thompson Washington D.C. is an exceptional destination, and this location allows us to serve both neighborhood residents and hotel guests with the fresh baking, hospitality, and community-focused atmosphere that defines our brand.”

“Bringing Kneads to Thompson Washington D.C. is a natural fit for our hotel and our neighborhood,” said Larry Casillo, Senior Vice President, Oxford Hotels & Resorts, “Kneads has built a strong connection with the communities it serves through its commitment to quality, hospitality, and creating welcoming spaces where people want to gather. We see this as more than a new dining destination, it is an opportunity to strengthen our role as the premier destination where hotel guests, neighbors, and the broader D.C. community come together.”

The Navy Yard location represents another milestone in Kneads’ continued expansion throughout the Mid-Atlantic region as the company continues to invest in creating welcoming neighborhood cafés centered around exceptional food, artisan baking, and genuine hospitality. The new location also serves as a strategic hub for expanding Kneads’ wholesale operations throughout D.C., supporting the company’s vision of delivering fresh, artisan breads and baked goods to local restaurants, hotels, and event venues across the city.”
