K. writes “Oh no!Last Christmas Tree in Town may be in peril! 🤣 We’ll see.” and passes on the fundraising note from current Councilmember and the presumptive next Mayor Janeese Lewis George: “When I think about how government should work, I think about Christmas trees. Stay with me – the city is supposed to pick up Christmas trees soon after they’re placed on the curb in January. But I have friends and neighbors who’ve told me about trees that are still sitting out there months later. It sounds like a small thing,
but I want to be a mayor who solves big problems and small ones. That’s why I’ve been spending so much time preparing, talking to experts, and reviewing how our government agencies function. It’s also why I’m looking forward to the listening sessions my team is planning for next month, where we’ll be able to get input directly from people like you.
But before we get to that point, there’s an important deadline coming up. Monday is the first DC Office of Fair Elections campaign filing deadline since the primary. Whatever DC residents donate to this campaign by Monday, OCF will multiply it by 5 and send us that amount. That means your gift will go five times as far. Putting up a strong fundraising number will help us pay for September’s listening sessions and all the work our team needs to do before the general election.
I’m asking if you can help. Can you give by Monday to help us prepare to govern for all of DC? Let’s work together to fix the big and small things.
