From the US Park Police:
“Incident Alert: This evening around 5:40 p.m., U.S. Park Police officers attempted a traffic stop on a confirmed stolen vehicle traveling northbound on Rock Creek Parkway. The driver failed to yield and fled.
After exiting the parkway and crossing the Connecticut Avenue Bridge, the suspect vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a person operating a moped. U.S. Park Police officers immediately rendered aid to the critically injured victim.
The suspect continued fleeing before soon colliding with a diplomat vehicle.
The three occupants of the suspect vehicle then attempted to flee on foot but were quickly apprehended without incident.
The three suspects and one of the two occupants in the diplomat vehicle were transported to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. No officers were injured.
The investigation into this incident will be conducted by the Metropolitan Police Department. As with all pursuits, U.S. Park Police will conduct an internal review to ensure compliance with agency policies and procedures.
U.S. Park Police extends its deepest condolences to the loved ones of the victim. Criminals who flee from law enforcement put innocent bystanders in danger. Public safety remains our highest priority, which is why we work to remove criminals from our streets.
U.S. Park Police has no additional information to share at this time.”
