“Dear PoPville,
Felicia is a local senior high school student, the president of her Student Government Association, and a recipient of the Stephen Joel Trachtenberg Scholarship, which awards a full ride at GWU to just ten DC high school students each year.
A stellar student who has grown up too quickly with many immigrant family responsibilities, she and her family are now being threatened with deportation.”
The GoFundMe says:
“My family is facing a critical moment as we deal with a pending immigration case just 2 days before my graduation. For the past four years, I have worked tirelessly—studying and striving to build a better future for us. Now, with graduation so close, we are confronted with costly legal fees that threaten everything we’ve worked for. The uncertainty of standing before a judge, not knowing if I will be able to return home and walk across the stage with my peers, is overwhelming.
We fled Nigeria because my father was threatened with forced female genital mutilation (FGM) for me and my two younger sisters. He refused to let this happen, so we left our home and everything we knew behind.
The funds raised will go directly toward covering legal representation for my family’s immigration case. Having a skilled lawyer is vital to ensuring we have the best chance to stay in the place we’ve called home for more than a decade. Your support will help us navigate this difficult process and give us hope for a brighter future.
I have dedicated myself to making a better life for my family, and now I am asking for your help. Please consider supporting us in any way you can. Your generosity will make a real difference, and I am deeply grateful for any assistance you can provide.”
