“Dear PoPville,
Sunday (4/12) I was walking my dog near Lincoln park between 3-4pm. My dog and I were standing at East Cap and 11th waiting to cross toward the park when a group of young boys on bikes and scooters came from the north, presumably from a baseball game since they were all dressed similarly in a dark green uniform. The first boy biked across 11th into the park without looking both ways, but there was no traffic coming. Immediately after,
two boys biked directly into traffic and were very nearly hit. The driver thankfully saw them and screeched to a halt inches from the boy on the bike. The boys giggled and didn’t get out of the road until I yelled at them to back up and wait for the crossing signal. They backed up and traffic proceeded but they went before the walk sign was live again.
I am writing mostly because I would never forgive myself if one of those children got hit by a car like they almost were right in front of my eyes today. Parents, these boys did not look both ways. They biked across with no regard for their surroundings and they were egging each other on. They couldn’t have been more than 10 years old.
I also don’t want another headline of a kid hit by a car. Especially if the driver is no where near at fault.
Thank you,
Cap Hill Neighbor”
