“Farmers Market SW moves to The Wharf”!

From Diverse Market Management:

“Farmers Market SW will reopen at The Wharf this spring, securing a new long-term home just two blocks away at M Street Landing following a successful ten-year residency at 4th and M Street SW. The market is scheduled to reopen on Saturday, April 4, and will continue to operate weekly on Saturdays through November from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The relocation was made possible through a partnership between The Wharf and Diverse Market Management, who worked together to ensure the market remains in Southwest and continues serving residents with access to fresh, locally sourced food.

Located in the plaza at M Street Landing outside of Pitango, Philippe Chow and The Fish Shop,

the new site provides an accessible setting that allows the market to continue its important role in supporting regional farmers and strengthening community food access.

“I want to thank District Wharf Properties, Councilman Charles Allen and the SWBID for helping to find a home for this market, which has become important to several local farmers and small businesses, as well as the community, since its inception,” said Michael Berman, president of Diverse Markets Management.

Long running favorite vendors and farmers have been invited to participate at the new location, and applications will soon open for additional vendors. The market will continue to accept SNAP/EBT benefits and participate in the Produce Plus program, helping ensure fresh food remains accessible to all members of the community.

Farmers Market SW has long served as a cornerstone of neighborhood life, connecting residents and visitors with local growers and producers while creating community connections. Its reopening at The Wharf marks an important step in preserving this tradition and ensuring its continued success.

“Farmers markets are community hubs – it’s where neighbors come together, find fresh food, and connect as community. For the last decade, the farmers market at 4th & M Street, SW has been that anchor for thousands of Southwest neighbors. After their displacement, it was critical a new home would be found quickly. I’m grateful to Diverse Markets for never wavering from its commitment to locate in Southwest and for the leadership at The Wharf for being a willing and creative partner to move quickly and find a solution in such close proximity to their historic location on M Street, SW. Leaders across Southwest, especially from Southwest Neighborhood Assembly, ANC 6D, and the SWBID, were strong advocates that showed how important a solution was for our community. I’m excited to see all our neighbors on April 4th for the first day of the new season!” shared Councilmember Charles Allen.

Andrew Son, CEO, District Wharf Properties stated “We are thrilled to welcome the Market to The Wharf and look forward to seeing our friends and neighbors on Saturday mornings. The Market is a key component of the community, and we are committed to ensuring its success at its new home at The Wharf.”
