More Trouble in Chinatown: “Full Kee and Gao Ya, just received notices to vacate by July 1, in order to make way for a 9-story luxury hotel”

509 H Street, NW

Save Chinatown Solidarity Network DC sends a call for action:

“Two of Chinatown’s last remaining Asian/immigrant owned businesses, Full Kee and Gao Ya, just received notices to vacate by July 1, in order to make way for a 9-story luxury hotel by Rift Valley Partners (RVP) & Eddie Moy. They are being given 3 months to leave establishments they have operated for almost 30 years–and forced to vacate right before their busiest season of the year.

Yesterday, SCSN was told that RVP is NOT willing to extend the vacate date or sign a community benefits agreement that guarantees community protections and minimizes harmful impact in Chinatown.

🗣️ Chinatown will soon have fewer than 10 small, AAPI-owned long-term businesses left 🗣️ We demand RVP and Eddie Moy extend the deadline to vacate to Sept 30th, and commit to negotiating a community benefits agreement. Join us in taking action to defend Chinatown’s small businesses, and hold developers accountable to the community!

⭐ Send two emails via Action Network, one to the hotel developers and one to Councilmember Brooke Pinto (customize your letter for greater effect!)

✉️ Demand that RVP & Eddie Moy push back the vacate date until at least September 30th and commit to negotiations around a community benefits agreement

✉️Urge CM Pinto to step up and champion the cause of preserving Chinatown, starting with this fight for Full Kee and Gao Ya!

⭐ Send in a testimonial for Full Kee & Gao Ya!
✍️ Send in a written, video, or audio testimony or old pictures with memories celebrating their business by May 31, 2025.

Long standing community members deserve a seat at the table over opportunistic developers. Your voice deserves to be heard. Take action now!”
