From a press release:

“Brookfield Properties, a leading global developer and operator of high-quality real estate assets, today announced a collection of new retail concepts coming to The Yards. The new offerings joining The Yards’ Phase II will include Sea Suite Cruises which is coming to The Yards Marina, and Foxtrot, Maman, Playa Bowls and Jungle & Loom, which will be situated along N St SE and the neighborhood’s pedestrian-only street, Yards Place, that connects the Navy Yard-Ballpark Metro Station directly with the Anacostia River waterfront and Nationals Park.

“We’re excited to welcome Foxtrot, Maman, Playa Bowls, Jungle & Loom and Sea Suite Cruises to our growing community at The Yards,” said Bobby Swennes, Executive Vice President and Head of the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast Region for Brookfield Properties. “One of the elements that makes The Yards neighborhood so special is its thoughtfully curated retailers, and we’re looking forward to offering our residents, office workers and visitors so many new places to try out and enjoy.”

The following new retailers will bring unique dining and service experiences to the neighborhood:

  • Foxtrot, the beloved all-day café and corner store, is expected to open at The Yards in the coming weeks. Marrying the best of neighborhood retail and e-commerce technology, from local beers to fine wines, grab-and-go sandwiches to chef-prepared meals, curated gifts to everyday essentials, Foxtrot offers it all available in-stores or for 30-minute delivery via the Foxtrot App. The 4,300-square-foot space located at 1275 New Jersey Ave SE will be the perfect spot for a coffee meeting, a quick lunch or finding a new locally-crafted treat.

  • What started as an independent Soho café and bakery and is now a leading lifestyle brand, Maman, is bringing its family-inspired French-inspired pastries, salads, sandwiches and Oprah-endorsed nutty chocolate chip cookies to The Yards later this year. Located on the ground floor of The Yards’ newest residential offering, Vela, Maman will occupy 3,500 -square-feet of space.

  • Playa Bowls knows how to serve up the perfect açaí, pitaya, and coconut bowls and smoothies. Founded by Jersey Shore natives & long-time surfers Robert Giuliani & Abby Taylor, Playa Bowls will bring exotic surf town-inspired vibes and healthy, sustainable living to the waterfront neighborhood. Also located on the ground floor of Vela, Playa Bowls will occupy 1,400-square-feet and bring another delicious dining option for the community to enjoy in 2024.

  • Jungle & Loom, the local- and female-owned plant shop, will occupy approximately 2,000-square-feet of ground floor space at 1275 New Jersey Ave SE in 2024. Jungle & Loom is passionate about making plants a fun hobby, not just an accessory, which will help Yards residents and visitors bring more beauty, joy, and ritual into their spaces. Jungle & Loom will offer an expanded plant and pot selection, including extra-large plants and trees, and plants for custom order. Plus, the store will feature a full potting station where staff can help customers repot plants and host workshops for public and private events.

  • Sea Suite Cruises, is bringing its fleet of boats to the Yards Marina this season! Tikito, a private tiki boat tour experience with a licensed master captain, will take 6 passengers out on the water for 2-hour private tours up the Washington Channel where they can enjoy bluetooth speakers, comfortable bar seats, a bathroom, spacious cooler, and LED lighting for night cruises. Sea Suite’s Paddle Boat Booze Cruises, which are perfect for birthday parties, corporate outiings, sightseeing, “sailgates,” and more are also coming to the marina and will welcome 8-16 people aboard for 2-hour cruises around the Washington Channel. Passengers are setting sale now!

At full build-out, The Yards will be the largest waterfront development in the DC region, encompassing 48 acres, including 6 acres with water frontage, with a total of 1.8 million square feet of office space, 500,000 square feet of shopping and dining space, 3,400 residential units and 7.5 acres of public green space. Now underway, Phase II of The Yards will deliver 1,260+ new multi-income residences, 1.8 million square feet of office space, including exclusive waterfront office, and over 33K square feet of newly reclaimed waterfront park space.

The lease agreements were brokered by Jenn Price & Kim Stein of KLNB, representing Brookfield. Foxtrot was represented by John Asadoorian of Asadoorian Retail Solution, Bradley Riddle of Greater Potomac Realty represented Playa Bowls, Maman was represented by Brand Urban and Jungle & Loom was represented by Alex Meyer of KLNB.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
