A Shakespeare Celebration 400 Years in the Making

The Folger Shakespeare Library — home to literally the biggest Shakespeare collection on the planet — is about do to something unprecedented in D.C.

From April 1-30, in celebration of the 400th anniversary of the Bard’s First Folio, the Folger will present “Searching for Shakespeare” — an immersive, city-wide festival happening throughout all 8 wards.

The festival officially kicks off this weekend with the opening of an extraordinary exhibition at the Martin Luther King Jr. Library downtown (where you can see the First Folio itself).

Then, before they’re all gone, reserve free tickets for special performances at DC Public Libraries of the world premiere of Our Verse in Time to Come — a powerful new play inspired by the works and words of Shakespeare and featuring sound design and music from local legend Nick tha 1da Hernandez.

And that’s not all! Love games? Join the fun of a wildly creative scavenger hunt throughout D.C., bring your big ideas to history-shaping conversations about the preservation of stories, or drop in for an exciting group of special programs for families.

All of it is free. All of it is happening for the first time in history. And it is coming to a library near you.
