The CakeRoom Bakery Door Smashed/Robbed in Adams Morgan “can no longer accept cash at this establishment”

2006 18th Street, NW via The CakeRoom Bakery

Thanks to J. for sending: “Cakeroom is the latest victim of a door smash/burglary”

Cakeroom shared yesterday:

“At 6 this morning we woke up to our humble little bakery that has served the beautiful neighborhood of Adams Morgan for almost a decade now, looking like this : glass shattered for as far as the eyes could see and all our Point of Sale equipment lying banged up on the floor after a very damaging break in. Sadly this has been happening to so many other small businesses in the area , night after night and for several weeks now . I am blessed though for the outpouring of love and dedication that I witnessed from the staff who arrived this morning to clean up the mess an intruder caused to our second home and resume their work like nothing happened .

They were not going to let this criminal kill our momentum and disrupt the business they work so hard to keep alive for all these years and all our sakes . We had orders to fulfill and those cakes were not going to decorate themselves . Thank you also to the most amazing handyman who has serviced our shop for more than 5 years diligently and quickly attended to the badly needed repairs after dropping his kids off at school and apologized for not having been able to come even sooner . Within just a few hours the broken glass was replaced by a custom made piece of glass that he installed himself soon after its delivery from the glass company. Thank you also to the policemen and detectives who were at the scene-of-the crime soon after the break in and remained for hours finger printing and scrutinizing every inch of our space for clues . They showed nothing but sincere compassion and sympathy for our loss and trauma . Today has not been the greatest but I feel immense gratitude for all the little angels sent to ease the pain and turn a dark day into a brighter and more hopeful one.

Oh and did I mention that we passed our random health inspection today ! So it hasn’t been all doom and gloom But … and this is an important announcement to our patrons , we can no longer accept cash at this establishment . The only thing these robbers have been after is the cash drawer . Credit cards only pls and for our safety and continued operation . Thank you in advance for your cooperation.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
