Volunteer event for new playground coming to Parkside (Ward 7)

“Dear PoPville,

The installation of a new playground (teen adventure park and dog park) being built in Parkside (Ward 7) is next month.

The playground is in partnership with the non-profit Kaboom! and also part of a Community Benefits Agreement I negotiated with developers. The build will take place from 12/7-9.

Project Information

Who: A total of approximately 200 volunteers from CityInterests Development Partners, KABOOM!, and the Parkside community. Volunteers will be supervised by professional playground installers.

Work is available for volunteers of all levels of skill and ability. Sample activities include: assembling play equipment, mixing concrete, and moving mulch.

**Please note – All youth under the legal working age for this state will not be able to participate.**

This Program is being funded, partially or fully, through the District of Columbia Executive Office of the Mayor – Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development.

When: Wednesday, December 7-Friday, December 9

9:00AM-4:00PM

What’s Provided: Lunch, snacks, and bottled water will be provided. Gloves and other safety materials will be provided for the projects that require them.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
