“Navy Yard’s New Hidden Restaurant Inside Another Restaurant Now Open”

From a press release:

“Silver Social, a terrace lounge serving contemporary American sharing plates and craft cocktails to customers 21 and older, is now open at 1250 Half Street, Southeast, Washington, D.C. Located on the second floor, the upscale restaurant is hidden within the new Silver Diner. Silver Social’s prime feature is a 50-seat heated, 1,700 square foot outdoor terrace with sweeping views of Nationals Park.

“We’ve created a whole new concept,” explained Bob Giaimo, president and CEO of Silver Diner Brands. “This restaurant evolves our Silver, American Brasserie brand into a more bar-centric space with a limited high-end menu that’s for those 21 and older. The space is designed to be more intimate and features heated outdoor terraces.”

Award-winning Chef and Co-founder Ype Von Hengst has created a specially curated menu sourced from local farms and purveyors. In addition to bar bites, the dinner menu includes gluten free, vegan/plant-based and low-fat options such as hummus, Kale + Firefly Farms Bleu Cheese Salad, Roasted Cauliflower, Street Corn, Beets and Crispy Mashed Potatoes. Buffalo Chicken Tacos, Scallops Romesco and Tuna Tartare are included as sharing sides. Mini mains include Shrimp + Octopus, Super Lump Crab Cake, Tenderloin Medallions, Chicken Parmesan and Scallops Risotto.

There are also half smoke and Creekstone Farm beef sliders, Margherita and Cinnamon-Chipotle Grilled Shrimp flat breads and a variety of desserts on the menu. Silver Social has a brunch menu served on weekends until 4 p.m. with a “build your own mimosa.”

Cocktails are equally impressive with mixologist Richard Torres serving handcrafted, pre-prohibition style cocktails made from DC Spirits and fresh-squeezed juices. The menu includes local craft beers and top wines as well.

“We created a great place to go on a date, special occasion or just to kick back after work,” explained Von Hengst. “This is very different from our other restaurants and will fill a niche in the community.” Silver Social was designed to be a more upscale version of Silver, American Brasserie with appeal to a younger demographic.

The restaurant group conducted extensive focus groups with both young residents in the neighborhood and ballpark ticket holders. The groups provided feedback on the concept and then attended multiple menu tastings and provided feedback on the menu. Focus group participants overwhelmingly stated that the neighborhood needed a cocktail lounge with great food and “a great vibe,” not just another restaurant for game day visitors.

Silver Social is open from 4 p.m. to midnight Monday through Thursday, from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. Friday, and 9 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to midnight on Sunday. To access the restaurant, customers need to enter Silver Diner and then head upstairs. Reservations are recommended. For more information visit www.silversocialdc.com.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
