Your Afternoon Animal Fix

If you have any fun or interesting animal/pet photos or news please shoot me an email to princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com with ‘Animal Fix’ in the title and say what neighborhood you’re from or upload to the PoPville flickr pool. I can’t guarantee I’ll get them all posted but I’ll do my best.  I’m aware not everyone loves pets.  But they bring me (and others) a lot of pleasure.  It’s cool, hold tight, a new post is coming in a half hour, you can make it!

“Dear PoP,

This black cat has been hanging around my house at 17 & Euclid NW in Adams Morgan for about a week and a few nights ago decided to live full-time in the entryway to my English basement apartment. It’s definitely a domesticated cat – it seems healthy, friendly, not scared of humans and has tried to come inside several times. I’ve been giving it food, water and a blanket to sleep on, and I’d love to keep it myself but can’t for various reasons. Can you please post the cat’s picture on your blog in hopes the owner will recognize it?

We caught the cat last night and took her to a vet to get checked out, and a friend of mine is going to keep her as a foster cat for now. It’s a healthy female cat, probably around age 5. We’re still going to register her with the Humane Society but she’ll have a safe home until someone decides to adopt her. Of course, we don’t want to keep her away from her rightful owner if there is one out there, so if you can still put her picture/info up on the blog I would really appreciate it!”

If you think this is your cat or would like to adopt it please send me an email and I’ll put you in touch with the reader.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
