Helicopter Circling in Columbia Heights, Shooting in the 1500 block of Maryland Ave NE, Carjacking in Hill East Last Night and MPD releases more info about Shooting of Washington Commanders Rookie Running Back

Catherine and many others write around 7am this morning: “Does anyone know why on earth there’s a helicopter circling above Columbia Heights at this hour???”

Besides it being a park police helicopter not much else is known as of 9am, stay tuned.

From MPD around 6am: “Shooting Investigation in the 1500 block of Maryland Ave NE. Lookout for a B/M, wearing blue/white clothing with a W/F.”

From MPD:

“The First District is currently investigating an Armed Carjacking that occurred in the 1300 block of Potomac Ave Se on August 29,2022 at approximately 11 pm.

Taken was a black 2017 Mercedes G350 with a DC tag of GH8165 by (2)suspects armed with handguns. Suspect 1 was wearing a black hoodie, slim build, 5’10”, in his 20s, armed with a long gun possibly an assault rifle. Suspect 2 was wearing a black hoodie, slim build, 5’5″, wearing a black ski mask, with a handgun. The vehicle taken was being followed by a gray 4 door sedan. Anyone with information is asked to call (202) 727-9099 or text tip 50411.”

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s First District seek the public’s assistance in identifying and locating suspects and a vehicle in reference to an Assault With Intent to Rob while Armed (Gun) offense that occurred on Sunday, August 28, 2022, in the 1000 block of H Street, Northeast.

At approximately 5:28 pm, the suspects approached the victim at the listed location. The suspects brandished handguns and attempted to rob the victim. During the robbery attempt, the suspects fired their handguns, striking the victim. The suspects fled the scene in a vehicle without obtaining any property. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
