“A new beer garden, Valor Brewpub, opened up very quietly in Tenleytown”

“Dear PoPville,

A new beer garden, Valor Brewpub, opened up very quietly in Tenleytown at 42nd and Wisconsin. They have a truck set up in the parking lot next to the Bullfrog Bagel truck and have set up tables in front of the former bike store space (the bike store is still occupying the adjacent building).

The folks running the truck said that there were plans to bring in brewing equipment into the old bike store space, so hopefully that means this is a long-ish term/not temporary ‘see how it goes’ bet.

They are open Wednesday to Sunday. They had the ability to serve food from their truck (I believe pizzas, sandwiches and wings may have been mentioned), and there was also a Fat Pete’s truck nearby as well.

This area has been starving for any kind of restaurant/bar type space, so hopefully the neighborhood will support them and demonstrate demand to any other food/retail folks who are looking for locations.”

Valor’s website says:

“Valor Brewpub is a Veteran-inspired bar, restaurant and brewery. Located just across the street from Washington’s 8th and I Street Marine Barracks on Barracks Row, Valor makes it a point to employ Veterans, use Veteran-owned products and support Veteran causes, donating 10% each time a Veteran organization or non-profit hosts an event there.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
