From an email:

“This Sunday, May 8th come picnic with us for the empowerHER Mother’s Day Luminaria at the Lincoln Memorial.

LUMINARIA is a whimsical display of personalized bags honoring loved ones on Mother’s Day. You can purchase a LUMINARIA bags here, for $25 donation, in honor of a loved one or in memory of a loved one. 100% of the proceeds go to empowerHER programs for girls under the age of 23 who have lost their mothers, the programs and mentorships are offered at no charge to the girls and their families.

The Luminarias will be on display at the steps of the Lincoln from about 6 pm – 10 pm and anyone is welcome to join us and enjoy the beautiful sight. There will be a speaking program and live music from 7-8:30 PM that will also be live streamed on our instagram – @luminaria_washingondc

empowerHER is a one-of-a-kind nonprofit and our MISSION is simple – to empower, support, and connect girls and young women up to age 23 who have experienced the loss of their mothers. Our events are volunteer-driven, community-based, and non-therapeutic and are designed to remind girls they are not alone in their grief and our mentor program offers year-round support from women like me who can teach, “loss Is survivable”.

Our biggest fundraiser of the year, the Mother’s Day LUMINARIA, will illuminate the night in 10 cities across the country and a brief video of last year’s event in DC can be viewed HERE:

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
