A Walk-a-Thon That is Much More Than a Walk

For nearly 40 years, La Clinica has provided culturally and linguistically appropriate clinical, mental health, substance use, community health programs and interpretation services to thousands of Latinx immigrants across the DMV.

On April 1, our 3rd annual Walk-a-Thon for Health will kick off, where each step we make individually and collectively affirms a more inclusive health system!

Heading out to go on a walk, why not make it count?

Bring along your friends, family and coworkers and join us by registering below. We promise a fun, interactive walking experience that is good for your health and good for your community!

Register at www.lcdp.org/walk.

Along with providing essential health services, La Clinica advocates and builds partnerships to ensure health care is accessible regardless of immigration status, language, gender, age, sexual identity, race, class, or income.

“Yanet’s insurance lapsed. She needed help securing her benefits and getting care for herself and her baby. She came to La Clinica.”

“Juan was nervous about getting a COVID vaccine but speaking with a health promoter and learning what to expect, he felt empowered to help keep his family and community safe.”

“Brizeida came to the U.S. speaking no English. She worked hard, studied, and dreamed, but felt increasingly isolated and frustrated. When she needed mental health services and a supportive community, La Clinica was there for her. Now, she is there for her community as she serves on the board of directors and adds her voice to the shaping of health care in our region.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
