“two older people were attacked unprovoked outside the Cathedral Commons Giant on Wisconsin Ave.” Arrest Made

3700 Newark St NW at Wisconsin Ave, NW

A reader reports: “Last night, approx 11:10pm, two (I think older) people were attacked unprovoked outside the Cathedral Commons Giant on Wisconsin Ave. Woman was knocked unconscious.

I saw it happen from the other end of the block and flagged down a passing cop. An ambulance actually happened to be right there as it was happening. One attacker.

I just happened to be walking my dog. Very scary.”

From an MPD report:

“On the listed date and time in front of the listed location the undersigned officers were flagged down for an aggravated assault of V-1 that had occurred in front of the listed location. V-1 was observed laying on the ground unconscious and V-2 who is V-1’s husband was assaulted with a closed fist to his face causing swelling to his bottom lip. V-2 stated that S-1 who was described as a W/M, 5’11 to 6’0 feet in height wearing blue jeans and a light colored sweater and brown hat grabbed V-1’s wooden cane and assaulted V-1 repeatedly in the back of the head causing a laceration. W-1 who was on the scene stated that he observed S-1 approach both V-1 and V-2 and asked them for money. S-1 was last seen leaving the listed location south bound from 3300 block of Wisconsin Ave NW.

A few minutes after the assaults of both V-1 and V-2, in the 3200 block of Wisconsin Ave NW S-1 proceeded make contact with both V- 3 and V-4 after asking them for cigarettes and spat on both V-3 and V-4. Both V-3 and V-4 did not sustain any injury from the spit.

S-1 was later found in the 3100 block of Wisconsin Ave NW where he was stopped and identified and placed under arrest.”

Update from MPD:

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Second District announce an arrest has been made in reference to an Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Cane) offense that occurred on Wednesday, February 23, 2022, in the 3700 block of Newark Street, Northwest.

At approximately 11:10 pm, the suspect approached the victims at the listed location. The suspect assaulted one of the victims with a cane and struck the other with his hands. The suspect fled the scene but was later apprehended. Both of the victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

On Wednesday, February 23, 2022, 33 year-old Alexander Adams, of Northwest, DC, was arrested and charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Cane).”
