“Dear PoPville,
I was on a non-Valentines Day date on Valentine’s Day, and my Hinge match brought me to Underground Comedy at The Eaton (he was very intentional in saying that it wasn’t a V-Day date). The show was lots of fun, and I completely love The Eaton. The crowd seemed to be full of couples like us – on a first or second date.
To be clear, my date wasn’t bad. He’s a nice enough guy, and I liked the spontaneity with which the date came together. I just didn’t get that immediate *click* with him.
Throughout the show, I noticed a guy (who also seemed to be on a date) sitting near us who kept glancing over our way. I didn’t think anything of it until I was waiting for my date to finish up in the bathroom and the guy was there too. He’s a tall Black guy with an excellent beard, but I couldn’t see many of his facial characteristics because he was wearing a white mask. But there was definitely a lot of eye contact during that short time. I intentionally didn’t get on the too-full elevator down when I saw he was going to wait for the next one too.
So the three of us (my date, me, and mystery man) got into the same elevator to exit. I have to say, I have no idea what happened to his date. I was still engaging with my date, who insisted on walking me to my Free2Move car, and mystery man was also walking in the same direction. He was parked right on K Street, and we kept walking, but not before I sent him another side glance, which he met.
If I had been able to leave The Eaton on my own, I definitely would have started a conversation, but that’s just not how it shook out. I’d love to see another Monday show with you, or grab a coffee or drink sometime!”
