From a press release:

“National Pupusa Day festivities at El Tamarindo start at noon (Sunday, November 14) with a slew of family friendly events.

For children, there will be all sorts of activities, from face painting to pupusa making. For the adults, the day kicks off with a vigorous dance workout from #VXNARMYDMV that will burn enough calories to fully enjoy the all-day food and drink specials. Attendees can browse the Latin market which will consist of local vendors and makers selling goods from across Washington, Maryland, and Virginia. There will also be a live art installation from Frida Larios, the muralist behind El Tamarindo’s window display. Live performances from La Salvadoreina, #VXNARMYDMV, Cumbia performers, folkloric dancers and a live DJ will provide the entertainment for the day. National Pupusa Day activities at El Tamarindo continue until 7pm and the restaurant itself is opened until 11pm. The event is free and open to the public.

Though El Tamarindo is known for having Washington’s best pupusas, for the holiday, the restaurant will host a contest to determine whose mom makes the best pupusas In the Washington D.C. area. Ten moms will be selected to compete, bringing their pupusas from home where a panel of judges and pupusa pros will determine the winner. The best pupusa maker will bring home a cash prize of $300. Pupusa making kits will also be available for purchase and delivery with local service NEAR for those that can’t attend the Pupusa Day festivities in person.

For nearly 40 years, El Tamarindo has invested in the Adams Morgan community, providing Washingtonians with exceptional food and a gathering space. Now, El Tamarindo is seeking investors to help the storied restaurant grow. El Tamarindo is currently raising funds through the D.C. Rebuild Bond program, a partnership between the D.C. mayor’s office and SMBX–the online marketplace that helps small businesses raise capital from its customers and local residents by issuing Small Business Bonds™. The restaurant will use the capital to build an outdoor patio and expand its kitchen. During National Pupusa Day, people who invest $200 or more onsite will automatically be entered into a raffle to win a pupusa party for up to 5 friends. The party includes appetizer and entrees for up to 5 people and 3 margarita carafes.

National Pupusa Day stages Sunday, November 14 from noon-7pm but El Tamarindo which is located at 1785 Florida Avenue NW, will be open until 11pm.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
