Ed. Note: This follows the news from the same group about Salazar, Tex-Mex, coming to former El Centro space on 14th Street that we reported last week.

From a press release:

“Royal Palm Social Club, from DC-based Mission Group owners Fritz Brogan and Reed Landry, will open in spring, 2022 at 26 N Street and Van Street SE in the new West Half building directly across from the centerfield gates of National Park.

The two-floor bar-centric restaurant will be built in a sprawling 13,000 square-foot space.

According to Brogan, “Royal Palm Social Club will be a watering hole where the vibe is always sunny and fun, regardless of the weather.” With multiple bars, garage doors leading to outdoor dining areas, 25 big screens and multiple event spaces for groups of all sizes, Royal Palm Social Club will feature relaxed beach cuisine and drinks in a vibrant and upbeat atmosphere.

Royal Palm Social Club will be located adjacent to Mission Group’s Mission Navy Yard, which opened in 2018 and is one of the city’s largest and most popular bars. Says Landry, “Mission Group’s continued investment in Navy Yard shows our commitment to one of the city’s fastest growing and energetic areas in the region.”

The menu will encompass bar snacks, fresh salads, fish tacos, beach fare and a variety of draft beers, seltzers and cocktails, as well as frozen drinks. The space’s three massive bar areas will provide groups of all sizes a place to slide up to the bar or enjoy arcade and table games, like shuffleboard.

The space is being designed by STUDIO SAINT, Studio for Architecture and Interiors, based in DC and Los Angeles, with John Gardner of Wallace Consulting & Contracting, Highland, MD, serving as construction manager and general contractor.

Mission Group owns and operates some of the city’s largest and most popular bars and nightlife venues. Mission Group designs properties with large roof decks and patios to foster a vibrant bar scene, comfortable dining and versatile private event spaces. Founded in 2014 by Fritz Brogan and Reed Landry, Mission Group venues include Mission Dupont, Hawthorne, Mission Navy Yard , The Admiral and, opening this fall, SALAZAR.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
