Highly Anticipated Adams Morgan Movie Nights Return With “Made in DC” Movies

The Adams Morgan Partnership Business Improvement District (BID) is excited to announce the return of the FREE community event, Adams Morgan Movie Nights!

Every Monday evening from July 12 to August 9, grab a blanket, a friend and a meal from a neighborhood restaurant to watch films under the night sky. Movies are shown about 30 minutes after sunset at the Marie Reed Recreation Center’s soccer field at 18th and California Streets, NW.

Restaurants in the neighborhood will be offering special takeout meals that attendees can bring to the field. Prefer to dine before the film starts? Enjoy one of the many Adams Morgan restaurants serving cuisines from around the world from cheap eats to Michelin-starred meals! Also, take advantage of the later sunset to explore our retailers, do a little pampering at one of our fine salons or explore the mural tour. There is so much to do in Adams Morgan at any time!

The theme of the movie series this year is “Made in DC” — including a few movies with scenes filmed in Adams Morgan!

Movie Screening Schedule:

  • July 12: “Punk the Capital” (scenes in Adams Morgan)
  • July 19: “Wonder Woman 1984”
  • July 26: “In The Line of Fire” (scenes in Adams Morgan)
  • August 2: “Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian”
  • August 9:” All the President’s Men” (on the anniversary of Nixon’s resignation)

The movie series kicks off with “Punk the Capital,” tracing the roots of the punk rock scene in Washington, D.C. for the years of 1976 to 1983. We’ll be joined by the filmmakers for a pre-show panel discussion about the film and the music scene itself, much of which was happening in Adams Morgan. Smash Records will also be joining us with copies of the film available for purchase.

Insomnia Cookies in Adams Morgan is giving away 150 individually-wrapped, hot-out-of-the-oven, cookies to guests on a first-come-first-serve basis at each movie screening. Be sure to arrive early to set up your space on the field and get your cookie!

We’d like to thank our partner, The Silva, for generously sponsoring our Movie Night series. With 172 thoughtfully designed apartments, including 10 penthouse suites, The Silva is the ideal home for residents looking to immerse themselves in the eclectic lifestyle of Adams Morgan.

August 16 is being held as a rain date if one of the movies is canceled due to inclement weather. Please note that alcohol and pets are not permitted on the turf field next to the school. Masks are optional for vaccinated patrons and required for those that have yet to be vaccinated.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
