“the owner said they’re a few weeks from closing if their fortunes don’t improve”

2309 Calvert Street, NW

“Dear PoPville,

I went to Afghan Grill for dinner in Woodley Park and the owner said they’re a few weeks from closing if their fortunes don’t improve. Apparently, convention goers at the Marriott Wardman Park accounted for 60% of their business, and they’re down over $200k in business as compared to a “normal”, pre-pandemic year.

Several other restaurants in Woodley Park have closed for the same reason, and I would hate for the Afghan Grill to meet the same fate.”

Check out and order from their menu here.

“Afghan grill serves the finest middle eastern and mediterranean dishes in the Washington D.C area since 1981. We serve a variety of different Afghan favorites, including the finest and most authentic kabobs. Not to mention many regional dishes such as our critically acclaimed pumpkin, and chicken! We constantly strive to use the finest ingredients including many local farmers and seasonal spices.

We welcome your whole family to our family owned restaurant. We serve only the finest Halal meats and offer vegan/vegetarian options. If you are new to Middle Eastern food we welcome you to an authentic experience. If you’re in a rush to eat with no time to dine in, not a problem! You can call us or order online any delicious dish that is on the menu or if you desire we will gladly prepare your meal however you like. Fresh and ready for pickup or delivery!”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
