“Does anyone have any intel on what’s going on with Sorriso Bistro in Woodley Park?”

2311 Calvert Street, NW

“Dear PoPville,

Does anyone have any intel on what’s going on with Sorriso Bistro in Woodley Park? I have been a loyal customer for some time now, but for the last few months their hours have been super spotty. When I call to place a takeout order a lot of times the line continues to ring and no one picks up despite them being listed as open on google. There are no signs outside/anything online to indicate they’ve closed.

I absolutely love that spot and the family that owns it is so terrific and kind, not to mention their Italian food is second to none! I’m hoping the community might know something I don’t!”

Their plants, flowers and website are still live:

“Welcome to SORRISO BISTRO

About:

Open since 2012, Sorriso Bistro is a neighborhood restaurant for friends and family to relax, eat, and chat, away from the hustle and bustle of the Adams Morgan and Woodley Park crowds. Serving lunch dinner, and a bottomless mimosa brunch, with a selection of local, organic and homemade fare such as Sicilian style pizza and homemade pasta, the Bistro has a dish for everyone’s palate. Our signature Gelato is made daily on the premises by Stefano Polles, who attended the Carpigiani Gelato University in Bologna, Italy. Also be sure to have a glass of wine from our price friendly wine list while hanging out with friends. In addition, we offer free wifi during lunchtime and is a perfect place for students to get some work done during the day.

After grabbing a meal you can head up stairs to Via Gypset consignment and vintage clothing boutique. Operated by Isabella Polles, the store offers unique clothing and wardrobe staples from around the globe to build up your closet and help you stand out from the crowd.

Back Story:

Sorriso Bistro is brought to you by the Polles family, who opened the successful Sorriso Ristorante in Cleveland Park in 2004. Since its opening, Sorriso Ristorante has been featured in the New York Times, BBC, CNN and more. 100 % family owned and operated, Sorriso is the gathering place for the neighborhood, full of regulars who know each other on a first name basis and have become extended members of the Polles family. Answering the call of their clients to open a more casual spin-off of their “mother ship” restaurant, the Polles family decided to create Sorriso Bistro so that their regulars, as well as new clients could go and find a friendly place to eat a delicious meal, people watch the action on the Calvert Street strip, or work on their laptop.”

Alas they’ve been closed the last few times I’ve walked by too. A phone call to the restaurant went unanswered for me as well. Stay tuned.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
