“One of the families in the Brightwood community is dealing with a tremendous loss and tragedy and could use any help they could get.”

A reader passes on this incredibly sad GoFundMe:

“Our Brightwood School Community has suffered a tremendous loss. We are deeply saddened that Gisella Sorto, a fourth-grade student, at our Brightwood Educational Campus, DC has passed away.

On the morning of February 28, 2021, the Sorto family was traveling on the highway when they had a tragic vehicle accident that resulted in the death of little Gisella (age 10), leaving her sister, Flor (age 13) and her parents Samuel and Wendy Sorto, in critical conditions.

Gisella was a happy and intelligent young lady. Gisella will be greatly missed by her family, friends and our Brightwood school community.

As we grieve the loss of our dear Gisella, we feel a heavy heartache on this loss and especially to our teachers who have taught the girls throughout the years. We are asking the Brightwood community to keep this family in your prayers and to please contribute with a donation for the Sorto family. The Sorto family plans to cover Gisella’s funeral expenses and family medical expenses.

There are no immediate dates to plan Gisella’s burials as of yet. The family shared “This is not something we are prepared to do as parents to bury our child, who would think that a family car trip could turnout in such a tragic.”

We appreciate any donations given. Please keep the family in your prayers.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
