Astro Doughnuts & Saya Salteña join Prescription Chicken in Shaw

1819 7th Street, NW

From a press release:

“The collaborative kitchen space occupied by local chicken soup brand Prescription Chicken welcomes new partners, Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken and Saya Salteña. Located at 1819 7th Street, NW the flexible kitchen space has helped small businesses pool resources and share expenses while expanding their reach during the COVID-19 pandemic. On January 26, Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken will begin serving their signature doughnuts, fried chicken and sandwiches, while also offering the popular made-to-order cookies from their ghost kitchen business, Satellite Sandwiches. Orders from Astro Doughnuts, Prescription Chicken and Saya Salteña are available for pickup-up and delivery through their respective websites as well as DC-To GoGo (Saya only), DoorDash, GrubHub, Postmates and UberEats.

In September 2020, Prescription Chicken took their retail and delivery-only food brand into the storefront, giving the brand a physical space to serve soup and fulfill pick-up orders, while also expanding its delivery radius, which is often set by third party apps. Although the space was larger than Prescription Chicken needed, the team saw an opportunity to partner with other businesses looking to grow opportunities during the pandemic. In December, another woman-owned small business, Saya Salteña joined the collaborative kitchen selling filled Bolivian pastries known as salteñas. Together, the three brands are excited to offer the immediate neighborhood a variety of comfort food options, while widening their delivery radius to other parts of the city.

“As independent small businesses, we are so excited to support one another while expanding our presence here in the District of Columbia,” the three owners said in a joint statement. “It’s no secret that restaurants and food businesses have faced challenging times since the start of COVID, but we are a resilient industry and look forward to growing our businesses and reaching a wider audience with our diverse and eclectic comfort food offerings.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
